Terms & Cancellation Policy
Guate Private ("we") operates private tours, transfers and travel planning in Guatemala, based in Antigua Guatemala. Booking with us means agreeing to the terms below. We have kept them short and fair.
Booking & payment
- Every booking is confirmed in writing (WhatsApp or email) with the date, itinerary, vehicle and price before anything is charged.
- Prices are quoted in US dollars. Published "from" prices are starting rates for a private vehicle or group as noted; your exact quote depends on group size, season and itinerary.
- Where a deposit is required, the amount and payment method are stated in your confirmation. The balance is due as agreed in writing — typically on or before the day of service.
Cancellation by you
- Day trips and transfers: free cancellation up to 48 hours before your start time. Within 48 hours, 50% of the price applies. No-shows are non-refundable.
- Acatenango overnight and Tikal: free cancellation up to 72 hours before departure, because these involve committed logistics. Within 72 hours, 50% applies; no-shows are non-refundable.
- To cancel or change a booking, message us on WhatsApp or email — the timestamp of your message is what counts.
Cancellation by us, and weather
- If weather, volcanic activity, road closures or safety conditions force a change, we tell you as early as possible and offer a rebooking first. If no alternative works for you, you receive a full refund of anything paid for the affected service.
- If we ever have to cancel for a reason on our side, you receive a full refund. That has not happened yet, and we intend to keep it that way.
Flight delays
Airport transfers are flight-aware. If your flight is early or late, your driver adjusts at no charge. If a flight is cancelled outright, we rebook your transfer for your new arrival without penalty.
On the day
- Itineraries are flexible by design — pace, stops and timings can change on the day at your request, within safety and daylight limits.
- Some experiences (volcano hikes in particular) involve genuine physical activity at altitude. Tell us honestly about ages, fitness and health conditions so we can plan responsibly; participation is at your own discretion.
- Entrance fees, meals and gratuities are not included unless your confirmation says otherwise.
Liability
We work with professional drivers and guides and maintain our vehicles carefully. Our liability for any claim is limited to the amount paid for the affected service, except where the law of Guatemala provides otherwise. Travel insurance covering medical care and trip interruption is strongly recommended, and required for Acatenango.
