Antigua rewards walkers and punishes schedules. This is two to four hours on foot with a private local guide — part history, part food, part architecture, and shaped entirely by what interests you.
Where the walk can go
A typical morning: the Santa Catalina Arch before the crowds arrive, Parque Central and the Cathedral while the shoeshine stands are still setting up, then a convent ruin — La Merced's fountain courtyard, or the vast broken naves left by the 1773 earthquakes — chosen for that day's light. From there: the market if you want commerce and chaos, a roaster's courtyard if you want coffee grown twenty minutes away, a comedor if you want to understand pepián.
But that's one version. Traveling with teenagers, the walk tilts toward food and photo spots. With history-minded travelers, it lingers in the ruins and the story of a capital destroyed and abandoned. There is no laminated script.
